This was a running joke my father would often recite in the car while casually avoiding Downtown New Haven’s J-walking college students.

“Freshman are 100 points, Grad students are worth 1000”

Imagine them darting across streets, eyes glued to their phones, oblivious to traffic. They might make sudden stops or cluster in groups that block others, turning the scene into a real-life game of Frogger—only here, the students are the obstacles, and the cars are the players trying to avoid them.

Picturing this virtual reality always made me laugh.
